Carat weight is not a complete specification
Origin, shape, colour, clarity, cut and documentation all belong in a comparison. The exact dimensions and appearance also matter. A cheaper stone may simply be a different product, even when its carat weight matches another.
Weight thresholds are not visual thresholds
Prices need not rise smoothly with weight. Familiar carat milestones can affect quotations, while their visual difference may be modest. Compare actual millimetre dimensions rather than assuming that a higher weight always gives a proportionally larger appearance.
Use the complete quotation
Check the currency, validity, delivery, applicable additional costs and the information supplied for the individual stone. An indicative catalogue price is a starting point, not a guaranteed final offer. Do not mix a loose-stone price with a finished-ring price.
Keep a three-candidate comparison
Record report number, shape, weight, dimensions, colour, clarity, cut information, visual observations and final cost. Write one reason for choosing each candidate. The best option is the one that meets your priorities with a clear and verifiable offer.
