What they share
Laboratory-grown and natural diamonds share the diamond crystal structure and essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties. Their origin differs. Moissanite and cubic zirconia are different materials, even when used to imitate a diamond's appearance.
What origin changes
Natural diamonds form through geological processes; laboratory-grown diamonds are produced in controlled environments. Their growth history can leave features that specialist laboratories use in identification. Appearance alone is not a reliable origin test.
Price and resale expectations
Laboratory-grown stones can offer a larger size or a different quality combination within a given budget. Natural rarity may matter to a buyer for different reasons. Neither choice should be treated as a guaranteed investment or a promise that the purchase price can be recovered on resale.
Choose according to your priorities
Compare actual stones using the same specifications, images and report checks. Decide whether origin, visual result, budget or rarity matters most to you, and require clear disclosure in the final quotation.
