Small size, important tolerances

Melee is used in pavé, halos and rows of accent stones. When many stones sit together, differences in diameter and appearance affect the finished setting. Millimetre calibration is therefore central to the order.

Weight and count are not interchangeable

A parcel can be ordered by total carat weight, but the approximate number of stones depends on their size and proportions. Use conversion tables only for planning; the packing list should confirm the actual supplied weight and specification.

Write a repeatable brief

State diameter and tolerance, colour and clarity range, quantity or total weight, intended setting and deadline. Agree what origin screening and documentation are available. Individual reports are generally not supplied for every small melee stone.

Inspect the parcel

Have the jeweller check calibration and matching before setting. For repeat work, retain the approved specification and record any changes. A sample parcel can help resolve design and tolerance questions before committing to a larger order.
