A report describes characteristics

A gemmological report can record identity, origin, measurements, grades and other findings within its stated scope. Read what the laboratory actually assessed rather than assuming every possible conclusion is covered.

An appraisal addresses value

A valuation depends on its purpose, date and assumptions. It is not automatically the price achievable on resale. Do not interpret a grading report, or a high appraisal figure, as a guarantee of future value or a promise to repurchase the stone.
