Read the number carefully
Where present, the inscription is usually examined with magnification. Compare every character with the report and the issuing laboratory's official record; a photograph may not show it clearly enough.
Verify more than the number
A report lookup establishes the record, not automatically the identity of a physical stone. Check measurements and other identifying details. If the inscription is missing, unclear or inconsistent with the offer, ask for an explanation and professional examination before payment.
