Calculate the outline
Divide the stone's length by its width. The result helps describe the outline, while the millimetre measurements show its physical scale. Neither figure alone describes cut quality.
Look beyond the ratio
Inspect symmetry, shoulders and the dark bow-tie area as the stone moves. Compare candidates in the same lighting and at the intended size. Choose a proportion that works with your hand and setting rather than chasing one supposedly ideal number.
